Mobile brake pad replacement · from £20.00

Bike brake pad replacement in London, at your door.

Worn pads make a bike slow to stop and noisy when it does. A mechanic fits new pads to one brake or both where the bike stands, from £20.00 for a standard bike, and tests the brakes before handing it back.

Brake pad prices by bike type

One brake or both in one visit. The slot is the time the mechanic books for the work.

Pads for common rim and disc brakes ride with every mechanic. A part we do not carry is priced before it is fitted, so you approve the cost first.

You pick standard bike, e-bike or cargo bike when you book, and the price for that type is what you pay.

Individual repairs can be booked for the same day, subject to availability, seven days a week across all 33 London boroughs.

A distance-based call-out fee can apply. It is free under 3 km from your nearest Tyred base and on orders of £150.00 or more, and it is shown before you pay.

Every repair and service price, listed by bike type, is on our prices page.

What is included

What a brake pad replacement includes

The job is the same on rim and disc brakes: old pads out, new pads in, and the brake set up so it bites cleanly.

  • Old pads removed and the brake inspected for wear
  • New pads fitted and aligned to the rim or rotor
  • Cable tension or lever reach set so the brake bites where it should
  • Braking surface on the rim or rotor checked and cleaned
  • Both brakes tested before the bike is handed back

Not included

  • New rotors or rims. A worn or warped rotor is pointed out and priced before it is fitted.
  • A hydraulic brake bleed. If the lever still feels soft with new pads in, that is a separate job.
  • New brake cables. Brake cable replacement is part of the Essential service package.
  • Brake levers and calipers themselves, which are priced before they are fitted.
When to book

Signs your brake pads need replacing

Pads wear faster in London than many riders expect. Stop-start traffic, wet grit and the weight of an e-bike all cut them down.

  • The lever pulls close to the bar

On cable brakes the barrel adjuster takes up some pad wear, but once it runs out the lever travel grows. On hydraulic brakes the lever keeps its feel while the pads thin, so look at the pads themselves.

  • A grinding or metallic sound

Metal on metal means the pad material has gone and the backing plate is wearing the rotor or rim. Stop riding on it and book.

  • The pads look thin

Rim pads have wear grooves, and when they are gone the pad is finished. Disc pads are done when little pad material is left above the backing plate.

  • Squealing that does not clear

A squeal that stays after a few firm stops in dry weather points to glazed or contaminated pads. New pads are the fix for both.

  • Longer stopping on a heavy bike

E-bikes and cargo bikes carry more weight into every stop, so pads wear sooner and the loss of bite shows first on hills and in the rain.

  • After a wet winter

Grit from wet roads works into the pad and cuts it down. A pad check in spring catches it before the rotor or rim pays for it.

Your mechanic

Fitted where the bike stands

Priced before you book, tested before we leave.

Tyred mechanics travel to you by cargo bike with tools and common parts on board, so new pads go in at your home, your workplace or wherever the bike is parked, rather than in a workshop queue.

Each job is priced before you book and tested before the bike is handed back. If the mechanic finds a worn rotor or a stretched cable while the pads are out, it is pointed out and priced before anything else is fitted.
